Canada Day 2009

Canada Day Celebration with a Wagon Ride

Canada Day Celebration with a Wagon Ride

Campark Resorts celebrated July 1st – Canada Day – with a special hay wagon ride and cake and refreshments in the barn. Happy Canada Day!

Campark and Volkwagens

Last weekend we had twenty plus Volkswagens at the campground, many vw bugs and vans from the 60’s and 70’s.  They come every year for the show at Fireman’s Park at Dorchester and Mountain Rd in Niagara Falls.  A bit of deja vu.  All over again.  I was unaware of this event until one of the campers told me about it.  I cycled over with my camera – a twenty minute bike ride – and took some photos.  You can see the results of my afternoon at Fireman’s Park here:   Volkswagen Collage.

To learn more about this and future Volkwagen events you can visit a couple of sites:

If you want to join us next year it gets busy so book early.

Niagara Falls Winery

Amidst the wineries of Niagara Falls is Jordan Village.  Recently, we went exploring in Jordan Village after picking up a bookcase for the barn (we have a lending library in the barn in case you’re looking for reading material).    This is delightful little town very close to Niagara Falls.  Vineyards on hills, little shops, curving roads, lovely homes and Toute Sweet, the best ice cream shop I’ve ever been to.  She makes her own ice cream.  I had a cup of dark chocolate ice cream with bits of cheesecake and fresh raspberries.  I was happy for a week.

There are gourmet restaurants, museums, wineries, bed and breakfasts, cute shops and galleries.

This section of the Niagara River is classified as a Class 6.  It is against the law to try and run it on a raft.  After seeing the river from the walk alongside, I’m a believer.

The Whirlpool Rapids consist of 4 kilometers (about 2.8 miles) of 3-5 meter (up to 16 feet) standing waves.  These waves are not caused by rocks at the bottom of the river but the force of the water itself.  Such a huge volume of  water is being forced through such a narrow gorge makes it impossible to run with a raft.

Last night (Tuesday) we had our first open mic night for the season in the barn at Campark Resorts.  It started at 7 and went to whenever.  It started a little quiet and slow but as the evening went, it got more lively.   There is a dance floor for anyone that likes to get out there and shake it.  For the braver ones (and some quite talented, I must say) just get in line and you play and or sing.  If you like to listen come and enjoy – if you want to play get here early as there are lots of people wanting to strut their stuff.  Food and drinks (non-alcoholic) are available and the admission is $3.00 – lots of parking available.

We’ll try for some pictures and perhaps some audio next week.

Just come out Lundy’s Lane a couple of miles past Kalar St and watch for the rooster on the right side of the road.

I see lots of folks coming into campgrounds with their bicycles.  The Niagara region has hundreds of miles of bicycle trails both paved and unpaved.  There is a very complete map of the bicycle routes of the Niagara area.  You can examine it online or send for one.  We have some of these maps in our store as well.

When you come to Campart Resort make sure that you check out our store for coupons for some of the local attractions.

When you visit us this summer be sure to check out Clifton Hill Niagara Falls.  Located just one block from the mighty

Instructions on making a smore this summer at Niagara Falls Camp and RV Resort – Campark:

What you need:

-Toasted marshmallows
-Graham crackers
-Milk chocolate bars

Use half of a graham cracker and have napkins ready.  Cook the marshmellow over the fire until golden brown and not scorching.  Place the marshmellow on the graham cracker and then a piece of milk chocolate on top.  Then top it with the other piece of graham cracker and squish it together.  And that’s all.

Upon arrival to Niagara Falls, whether you bring a trailer, tent, travel trailer, motorhome or RV you will want to know your basics in getting a fire going.

A fire will not burn well unless it’s built properly from the start.  Well when done right one match is all it needs.
The three essential things to start a fire are:
1.    Heat
2.    Fuel or something to burn.
3.    Oxygen

Ranger Phil goes over all you need to start a fire with one match.
